FOGO Walking

Contrary to what you may think, FOGO Sports is more than just a running program. With an overall goal of increasing your health & wellness, we are most interested in getting you more physically active. If that means starting out walking, SUPER!!

Walking is an ideal low impact aerobic exercise that can be perfect for people with bad knees or hips or for those looking to slowly start back into an exercise program. Regular walking can reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, lower total cholesterol, raise healthy HDL cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Regular walking will also help maintain healthy bones, increase muscle utilization, stabilize blood sugar, and provide stress relief from our way too busy lives!! 

Our aim is to put together a small army of FOGO walkers who, with regular weekly walking, will gradually increase their walking distances and be one of the few to walk a half marathon. The power of a strong and supportive walking team will help get you out the door each Saturday morning and walking your way to better health. Don't put off getting active another minute - grab your walking shoes and come join our healthy, active team!!

Saturday Morning Team Walking
Our main team walks will take place EARLY on Saturday mornings. We will begin with shorter sessions that will gradually increase in distance to prepare us for the ING Miami Half Marathon. All Saturday morning walking sessions will be done with our pace teams. 

Saturday trainings will begin between 5:30 and 7:00am with our longer sessions starting at earlier times. Start times will be adjusted and staggered so that we all finish together between to allow for speakers and presentations at one common time (approximately 8:00am). 

Monday Evening Training @ Tropical Park
The FOGO Training Program suggests 4 other days of walking 30 minutes a day in addition to our Saturday morning training. To provide you with extra support in your training, beginning Monday, October 3rd we will host weeknight training sessions at 6:30pm in Tropical Park (7900 SW 40th Street). The FOGOs will meet at the north end of the park, outside of the track and field stadium, for a 50-75 minute workout session that will includes a series of activities from your walking to strength and core training to stretching. Initially, these workouts will focus on establishing consistent walk training habits and a great endurance base, but as our fitness levels increase we promise to find new and exciting ways to challenge you! 

Thursdays in Key Biscayne
Beginning in November, we will look to add a 2nd weeknight session in Key Biscayne every other Thursday evening. This training session will be designed to add a little more variety to our training and allow us to enjoy the beauty of South Florida. Starting at 6:30pm, we will head up and down the Key Biscayne bridge to maximize our leg strength and lung endurance!


The weekday workouts are open to the public so bring a friend or family member to come and walk with you! Their health is just as important to us as well!!
