Head Coach / Program Director - Mark Stoutenberg
Mark Stoutenberg currently works as a Faculty Member in the School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Among his many research programs, Mark is currently involved in: - sports performance testing with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) - community-based health & wellness education programs - investigating the impact of exercise & nutrition in breast cancer patients and survivors - exercise interventions in drug abusing populations - diabetes prevention through lifestyle changes
After graduating (B.A. in History) from Columbia University (New York, NY), Mark spent the next year in San Diego, CA working as an intern with the San Diego Chargers before moving to South Florida to attend graduate school at the University of Miami. Mark worked as a member of the 2001-2004 Miami Hurricane football program before focusing on his academic studies and growing love of endurance sports. Mark graduated with his Master's degree in Exercise Physiology in 2004 and completed his PhD in 2008. Over the past 5 years, he has competed in numerous half and full marathons, as well as 4 Ironman triathlons.
In the community setting, Mark served as the Program Director of the TeamFootworks program for 3.5 years and is currently the Director of FOGO do Miami, an Ironman training team (www.fogodomiami.com) that has successfully trained 38 individuals for Ironman competitions in the past 2.5 years.
Mark is a Level I USA Track and Field certified running coach and has held certifications in personal training from the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Council on Strength and Fitness. Mark is also the Chair of the USA Triathlon Collegiate Commission - overseeing the development and growth of collegiate triathlon across the country.
